Periodontal Care
Healthy gums are the foundation of a healthy smile. Periodontal care focuses on preventing, diagnosing, and treating gum disease (gingivitis and periodontitis), which can lead to tooth loss if left untreated. Regular periodontal maintenance is essential for ensuring long-term oral health and reducing the risk of systemic health complications associated with gum disease.

Signs of Gum Disease
Red, swollen, or bleeding gums: These symptoms often indicate early-stage gum disease (gingivitis). Bleeding gums, particularly when brushing or flossing, are a sign that inflammation is present.
Persistent bad breath: Bacteria buildup in the gums can produce foul-smelling toxins, leading to chronic halitosis that does not improve with regular brushing and mouthwash.
Gum recession: As gum disease progresses, the gums begin to pull away from the teeth, exposing more of the tooth’s root and making the teeth appear longer than usual.
Loose teeth or changes in bite: Advanced gum disease (periodontitis) can cause the bone supporting the teeth to weaken, leading to tooth mobility and even tooth loss.
Treatment Options:
Scaling & Root Planing (Deep Cleaning): This non-surgical procedure removes plaque and tartar from below the gumline, helping to eliminate infection and promote healing. Scaling removes bacterial deposits from the tooth surface, while root planing smooths the tooth roots to prevent further bacterial attachment.
Antibiotic Therapy: In some cases, topical or oral antibiotics may be prescribed to help control bacterial infections and reduce gum inflammation. These antibiotics can be placed directly into periodontal pockets or taken in pill form.
Periodontal Maintenance: After initial treatment, patients require ongoing professional cleanings every 3 to 4 months to manage gum health and prevent recurrence.
Benefits of peridontal care:
- Prevention of Tooth Loss: Addressing gum disease early prevents further damage to the teeth and surrounding bone structure.
Reduction in Systemic Health Risks: Studies show links between gum disease and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, and respiratory infections. Treating periodontal disease can contribute to better overall health.
Fresh Breath & Enhanced Oral Health: Removing bacteria from the gums eliminates bad breath and reduces inflammation, leading to a healthier mouth and a more confident smile.
